A Grateful American made comments that have me thinking about something currently being eaten up by the anti-war/anti-Bush media. The story of Cindy Sheehan, the mother of Casey Sheehan, a fallen soldier who lost his life in Iraq last year after reenlisting in the Army to go to the war torn country. Cindy’s is now the face and story to end the war, but who is she really and what’s the real story?

It is Viet Nam all over again – so says former Presidential candidate John F. Kerry and Senator Edward Kennedy and a whole host of individuals who were “peace activists” during the Viet Nam war.
Yes, folks, it is Viet Nam all over again, but not in the way the left-wing, liberal media is portraying our efforts in Iraq.
First of all - a very brief history lesson, something that many of today’s youth fail to receive, other than of course that the U.S. is the scourge of the world - the U.S. Military in Nam did not loose ONE MAJOR battle, including Tet of 1968. What the U.S. Military did loose was the objectivity and truth about what was going on via the media, probably starting with Tet of 1968.
The North Vietnamese regular army forces and the Viet Cong guerrillas attacked Saigon and most provincial capitals, briefly overrunning some. But except in the old imperial city of Hue, these communist occupations were principally measured in hours. When Tet was over, Hanoi had gained exactly zero territory and lost thousands of troops. The North Vietnamese Army suffered severe losses. The V.C. were never again a significant factor in the war. Tet was one of the most lopsided military defeats in history - for the communists, that is. And this was all in 1968 – four years before the last of our troops left Nam.
So what happened and why is this, in my opinion, Nam all over again?
Consider what Pham Van Dong, the former prime minister of North Vietnam, recently reveled about the Communists strategy, and I quote: “Our purpose is, through a progression of all-out attacks, to cause many U.S. casualties and so erode the U.S. will, that the antiwar influences will gain decisive political strength.” - Italics mine…Indeed, Ho Chi Minh famously predicted – again I quote – “For every one of yours we kill, you will kill 10 of ours. But in the end, it is you who will grow tired.” – Again, italics mine.
I recall reading about the Kent States riots – while serving my second tour in Nam – and wondering what the heck is going on back there in the States? Little did I realize at the time, that it was the battle plans of Pham Van Dong and Ho Chi Minh!
In other words, the media, wittingly or un-wittingly, played a huge roll in our defeat in Nam. I personally believe it was the former.
Now, back to the future!
It is Viet Nam all over again, because the left-wing, liberal media is trying to ferment the same anti-U.S. hatred all over again. And Cindy Sheehan is the first of the anti-war “heroines” that the left – and the Islamo-fascists this time around – are promoting to help in their battle plans to so erode the U.S. will, that the antiwar influences will gain decisive political strength, again to quote Pham Van Dong, the communist and former prime minister of North Vietnam.
But this time around there is a new weapon that the righteous did not have in Nam, and that is the internet and blogs such as this one. Look at what happened to Dan Rather – who was, incidentally, one of those who supported and promoted the notion that we were loosing the war in Nam.
When he went on the air during the last election with the phony documents showing our President AWOL – that is “Absent Without Leave” for those who have not had the pleasure of serving in the U.S. Military – almost immediately the TRUTH came out and poor ole’ Dan was made to look the fool that he really is.
So, it is Viet Nam all over again but this time around, the left does not have the monopoly on the “truth” that they claimed they had for the past 40 + years.
Maybe it is not Viet Nam all over again!
Excellent lesson. You are correct, sir. Because of bloggers and the internet the truth is not something the "left" has sole custody of!
... Sadly America is being split between Left and Right like a disease. There is a difference between honor and duty. Choose which is more important to you. You is duty to america, not the government, left or right, but the people. Or your honor, something that no one, but you will care about in the far future.
So you really need your death to mean something? In the large play of things it matters only to you and your family.
I respectably disagree with what Drek said.
Does he really mean that the 50 Million people freed by our Armed Forces – in Afghanistan and Iraq - matters only to our soldier's families? Call me stupid and naive, but I think not. What about Europe? Did the sacrifices of all our soldier’s lives mean nothing to the Europeans when we freed them from the likes of Hitler? Again, I think not!
This is the problem with the left and/or pacifists – to them nothing is worth dying for – unless it is, of course, in the defending of innocent trees, polar bears, lions, elephants and, oh yes, ANWAR – the frozen barren land in the northern most part of Alaska. But to give one’s life for fellow humans – forget it, humans are not worth fighting for.
As we would say in Ireland, ach well – meaning “whatever”
Thank the Good Lord that there are those who still value humans over the rest of the planets. And, oh by the way, what a country we live in. If Mrs. Cindy Sheehan were in most other countries in the world she would be, either in jail or floating face down in some deserted river.
Hitler.. He would have died eventully... HE was an evil man but you canot put all the balme on him or the people around him. it is the whole german people who are to blame for what he did. They allowed it to happen and were mainly the ones who did most of the killings. Hitler killed no one, he only ordered it. Hitler was given most of the blame to... how do you say this.. free up the guilt form teh german populace. Liek they relaly weren't to blame for anything. they were under a thrall or soemthing. He was a bad man but not teh worse the world has seen jsut the most recent. Pol pot was actully mroe much... disturbing, but the internationl community turned a blind eye. For what reason? I don't want to go there.
And really there is nothing worth killing over, not dying for. And please don't lump me together with tree huggers. And really if america cared about everyone we whould be ending disputes all over the world not jsut in oil rich counties or those that the government ahve an interest in. Also Sheehan can say whatever she wants. It's her choice and really there's not much you can do legaly other than not listening to her.
Really it's my religion that really keeps me from fighting over anything. There are ten commandments and no where in there does it justify killing people.
It's good to see a discusiion that doesn't lead to yelling and demonization of one another.

The Ten Commandments literal translation (Aramaic for that is the language they were written in) is “Thou shalt do no murder “ not "thou shalt not kill". Something often misunderstood by Christians who are unaware of the real meaning behind the Old Testament Ten Commandments and what Jesus said.

We have a good, old-fashioned nihilist in our midst in the appropriately named drek. As peculiar and essentially worthless as some philosophies are, it's always helpful to have a real live specimen to study, if only for the purpose of saying -- "there -- THAT'S why it doesn't work."
